Can't get vnc viewer under SuSE 9.1

Hello all,

What I want to do is view my Win2K desktops and control them from my Linux desktop.
I have realvnc installed on my Win2K boxes.
vnc works fine under Fedora core2, but I can't get it to work under SuSE 9.1.

If I type

-------------
rpm -qa | grep vnc
-------------

in a console, it renders

-------------
tightvnc-1.2.9-177
kdenetwork3-vnc-3.2.1-45
XFree86-Xvnc-4.3.99.902-43.28.
-------------

But when I type

-------------
vncviewer 192.168.22.51:1
-------------

I get

-------------
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Error: Can't open display: :0
-------------

I get the same response if I type

-------------
vncviewer 192.168.22.51:1
-------------

Why is this not working?
I can't find a vnc gui - is there one? How do you get to it?

-------------

It means that the user you are running vncviewer as doesn't have access to the X server on your suse box. I'm not sure why you would be running it as a different user than that of the user who is using the display but you should be able allow them with:
xhost +localhost

Hi David,

Thanks for your response. I tried this:
tecumseh:/home/tecumseh # xhost +localhost
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xhost: unable to open display ":0"

I don't know what this means. However, you're correct - I was su on the console. When I exited su mode, I was successful in getting a vncviewer window.

Thank you very much! I would not have been able to get this working without your insight.
