Is this red hat 10 (sic) or fedora core 1 or 2 or 3 ?

Is this a dailup connection you want, or via a network, or other?

More detail helps.

However, you should get somewhere using the GUI

from the gnome menue, the "system tools" menue has a "network device comtrol" daemon and "system settings" has a "network" daemon.

The daemons do the job of wizards in windows.

You may also need to set up e-mail accounts and so on in the browser/mail client you use.
In mozilla, look at Edit > preferences, for example.

This should get you started. Otherwise, more specific question please.

do it in the text mode. take a shell propmt and type 'vi /etc/squid/squid.conf', u will see a long file , add the following line,' acl lanname src network id/ netmask'.
here lanname must be your network name. u must get ur fqdn when u give the command ' hostname -f' and domain name when giving 'hostname -d'. now in the the same file add the line ' http_access lanname allow'.. save the file and execute the command ' service squid restart'. u must have correct entries for all of the hosts in your /etc/hosts file.....
happy proxying......bye
