well the nic is the Network Interface Card.
The nic that comes wth 2wire is actually a different model from the ordinary nic they were shipping out with the ordinary modems.
I am not sure if there is a linux driver on that cd as they are technically a different company. I can check into that when I get back into work on monday. I will let you know.
"Linux recognizes it as a "2Wire PC Port" but it just needs a stinking driver"
That's for the network card that came with the 2wire. I presumed that is what your looking for.
For the USB?! Yikes, I've no idea. I thought you wanted the nic driver. USB is very unstable anyway.
I have no idea if 2wire have USB drivers for their 2wire ~ did you check their site? Also there could be some other open projects around. I believe someone had similiar questions a good while back and there was nothing really useful on the net for USB on this modem/router.
Yeah....I'm thinking ill convert my old p1 200 MHz into a very secure windows server and connect that via ether net to my comp now
ive sent to e-mails to 2wire explaining why they should support linux, and ive requeted someone make a driver for homepna stuff on linux at www.homepna.org
Thanks for all your help, it seems as if people just won't adapt to the best new OS around.
yeah - it's going the right direction tho. I always write an email and request this type of stuff. It can never do any harm. I have requested a shockwave port from macromedia about 3 times now. That's the only reason I use windows anymore - my son loves the internet games on zone.com, games.yahoo.com etc etc. No way around that.
NB. Honestly tho - USB is flakey.
If you are determined, look around for ETHernet-USB converters. If you have the USB converted to ethernet - all you might need is the ethernet nic and driver installed.
I know on the USB-ethernet you plug it in USB one end and ethernet the other and it works - just get one thaty goes the otherway if they are arioung.
