Problems Install RHE3 or RH9 on a IBM Thinkpad R40 using VM Ware

Newbie Newbie

I have tried install RedHat Enterprise and RedHat 9.0 using VM Ware 4.0 on an IBM ThinkPad R40 but when it start the second disk it keep said it can not read the CD-Rom there is a corrupt file or the CD-Rom is damaged. I have tried two different version of Linux RedHat- Enterprise and version 9.0 and the same thing as happened when trying to install.

Either:

1. VMWare incompatibility
2. Broken CD-ROM

Exactly which, I don't know.

Can you rip the cd's onto the hard drive and try that.

You can setup vmware to use an iso image for the cdrom, disconnect and switch it during the install.

The other thing would be to do a network install. You would need to setup the Files as they are on the CD's in your web or ftp folder.

there is a fix for this (i.e. not recognizing second disk during install) give me some time and I will try to find the answer that you seek. In the meantime, when it asks for the second CD, ctrl-alt out of VMware and release the CD if your Edit-Removeable Devices is not greyed out. Also check that your CD drive autoplay is stopped.
