Sorry for the long subject, but that pretty much spells it out!

System: Thinkpad R40 w/ AC97 audio. Fedora Core 3 install with latest updates via Up2Date.

During the install of Fedora Core 3, there is sound. But once I boot up and try to use the sound feature (playing a DVD or a music cd or MP3 cd), there is no sound. The volume and mute buttons on the laptop also do not function. Perhaps these are related? Anyone have any ideas on how I can test this or resolve the issue? I've tried basic stuff like alsaconf (doesn't work under FC3 I don't think?) but again, I'm a noob so I'm unfamiliar with basic system info commands and stuff like that.

I'll continue to scour the forums here for possible answers, but if anyone has any bones to toss my way, I'd appreciate it!
