APM and ACPI on Acer Aspire 1605DLC RH9

Hi, I have Acer Aspire 1605DLC notebook and Red Hat 9. I use both WinXP and Linux and I want to have power management /APM, ACPI/, mainly due to the fact, that I dont know the battery status, so I can just guess the time my notebook turns off. Also, CPU works on 100 percent full time so it generates quite a noise. I want, if I can set it to lower level of CPU power etc. like in WinXP. The battery status is crossed in KDE and APM is not working /maybe not in kernel/.

I am a newbie, so I dont know anything about kernel compiling. Please, help me step by step, how to set it up and running. Notebook has Sis 646 chipset, Radeon 9000 VGA, default workstation Red Hat 9.

Please, help me to solve this problem. Thanx.

CDman,
The current implementation of ACPI in linux only supports the battery monitor. There is a patch available for the kernel that will enable it. SuSE 8.2 has the patch all ready compiled in.
You might do a search on ACPI here and on comp.os.linux.portable for help on getting ACPI working in RH9.0.
