Angry APM or APCI on ACER Aspire 2012WLMi (Aspire 2010 Family)

APM and/or APCI do not work on my laptop (Acer Aspire 2012WLMi).
It is a very recent one. The drivers are not installed for APM as I guess my BIOS isn't configured properly or cannot be. I tried to see if I could turn APM version in my BIOS to 1.1 as I read should be done in a tutorial but no such options available in my BIOS.
Is there a way I can fix this?
I heard APCI is a good alternative for APM. I work on Mandrake 10.0 Powerpack. Could someone tell me how to install it ?
Help would really be welcome because what is the point of having a laptop if you can't see how much battery is left.

Thanks in advance.

I recently installed Slack current on my Gateway Solo 9300.
I used the default 2.6.6 kernel with acpi enabled.
On first boot I had no acpi functions.
A quick dmesg said that my bios was too old but I could
enable acpi by appending lilo to read:

append="acpi=force"

I did so and had acpi.

Ac, battery, button, fan, processor, and thermal were built as
modules. Once I loaded them, I fired up Gkrellm and had not
only battery charge but processor temp as well. In fact I have
everything except fan rpm.

hey

@ ftp_palace I see you can run Linux with an Acer Aspire 2012. Do you had display problems(if yes how do you solve them?)? I have the laptop too (Aspire 2012 WLCi). Everytime I install Linux (I use fedora core 1) on the laptop and boot it the display stays black and I have to connect the Laptop with a Monitor to see something... If I shutdown the laptop wait a minute and start it I get sometimes a picture but everytime I boot the laptop the problem occurs again.
Or do someone else had a similar problem and solve it?

Thx for help

-- Simply install ACPI from the Mandrake Control Center Software Installer (it should be 2 packages)
-- Then go to the boot options in Mandrake Control Center and put a check on the ACPI enabled
-- Go to the System tab in Mandrake Control Center and Services and say put a check on both ACPI services to start on boot

Everytime I install Linux (I use fedora core 1) on the laptop and boot it the display stays black and I have to connect the Laptop with a Monitor to see something...

-- Disable the 3D Hardware Acceleration of your ATI, this should fix your problem.
