Boot hang solved by removing "quiet" tag from grub linux line
Around kernel version 3.14 my old linux system (fedora 19, P5B MB with Intel Core duo), which had been booting reliably for years, hung while booting at the "booting linux...." line. Nothing in log files. While debugging, I removed the "quiet" tag from the grub.cfg linux line, and voila it started booting normally again.
Why would removing the "quiet" tag (i.e. having the kernel print boot info to the screen) cause my hang to go away? Does it change the timing in some way to workaround a lurking problem?
