After a painstaking installation of Slackware 10.2, I find myself yet again needing help with this system. Sound being the issue. I really want to take a rock and break through my microsoft windows dependancy. But Linux is very annoying at this point. However, I will not give up and ask if there is anyone out there who can help. I am using an Avaratec c3500 tablet pc and the sound device is an AC97' soundcard.
to see if it can recognize and configure your soundcard? If it cannot, then from the output of
Code:
lscpi
find your m/b chipset and take a look here to find out what you must do in order to make your card work. If you have any probs, post here for further help.
Alsa config didn't even find my sound card. Then the lscpi code didn't work. I went to find my chipset on that link given but I could not find it. So I googled for it and found out that is is a SiSm741 cipset. Anything you thing you can do to help?
The kernel module snd_intel8x0 should be able to get an AC'97 soundcard working. Do an 'lsmod | grep snd' and see if snd_intel8x0 is listed. If not, login as root and do 'modprobe snd_intel8x0'.
Check under /proc/asound. Check the contents of file 'cards' and' devices'.
Also, check the contents of /var/log/messages or post it here.
I have tried what was told for me to do. Whether it be my systems suck or I don't know what I am doing. I do not know. I downloaded the most recent alsa driver to try to solve all of this. I am still stuck due to the fact that I have to make changes to the file and what not and there are some directions I don't quite understand. If someone can lead me through this process It would be great. The driver is Alsa 1.0.11 or something like that. It is the most recent one out there. Please help me.
My lack of common sense put me through all of this and now I have finally figured it out. I didn't unmute the stupid mixer. Well now it is done. Thanks to everyone who helped out during m whole ordeal.
