sound issue

hi

i have a sb pci 128 sound board (es 1371 chip) with kernel 2.4.10 and kernel drivers for the chip (no esd, alsa or so)

earlier, i could play 2 (or more) audio files (or video or game) at a time for example i could listen to xmms and play quake3 at the same time. without any sound server (no alsa, no esd, no arts).

then i had to set up my system from scratch. since then this feature doesnt work anymore... i just dont know what i did that it worked, and i dont know what i must do to get it working again...

do you have any idea?

thanx

debian's installation program gives you an option to
configure your kernel"install some modules"
usually the sound-cards modules locate in the "misc" section
,open it and you will find your sound-card,pess"+" or "Enter" //don't rem
to install it as a module

or you can do it manually:
#cd /usr/src/linux
#make menuconfig
go to to sound's section and press "m" beside es1371
then exit
#make modules
#make modules_install

then
#modprobe es1371
now have fun with your mp3s

well thanks, but that was not my problem.

sound already worked (and is working fine) but icant play SIMULTANEOUSLY 2 or more songs at a time.

for example, when i listen to music in xmms, and start q3a, then q3a wont start until I stop xmms (i get the error message, that the sound device would already be in use...)

but this had worked (with my previous install)

thanks for any further help
