The Linksys brand is still reliable whether Cisco as a parent or not.
Do you need or want wireless? How many NIC ports do you need?
The Linksys WRT54G is a great router at a fair cost. It will provide you with wireless and wired. If you need more ports then just get a switch to add to the router. The 'WRT54G' should be had for about $50 (US). Switch cost vary and depend on the number of ports you need.
You could search LQ and find tons of posts on this subject.
