The update to Evolution 1.4 seemed to do the trick - it's a bit flaky at times, but I have successfully written an email on the Palm and had it send when I sync'd the Palm with the puter.
Otherwise, just follow the instructions on the links (I did those first and then upgraded the kpilot and mail software).
