hi guys i m try to connect my western digital external usb drive to pc but get the follow:

Have you read the sticky for this forum? We need to know the distro and kernel version.

You are using scsi emulation for usb mass storage - maybe fdisk will see it. You can always try mounting /dev/sda1 or /dev/sda4 (if the first partition is logical).

I don't know why you keep getting keycode errors.

sorry i forgot abt the distro, it is kubuntu 5.10, kernel 2.6.12, and if i try fdisk it the sda just disappear, and sometimes no sda at all

I suspect that the keycodes are important. Bad usb cable to drive, short in mouse cord, defective controller on drive or defective usb controller on Mb. Are you using a usb hub? If so, try it without it. Try the drive on another computer. Switch out usb cable. Switch mouse. Usual routine switch one thing at time till you find what is genrating errors.

I hav got SUSE 10 installed on my usb harddisk
but i dont get the splash screen (used for selecting operating system) instead i get a grub command line...
i hav to use " configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst" & thn tht screen comes up. & everything boots up normally.

Anybody has any idea how to get splash screen directly instead of grub promt
