Burning DVDs with k3b on external USB burner issues

Hi,

I was just given a Maddog Megastor MD-18XTFE bought in a Radio Shack store which I tried out with k3b 0.12.10 under KDE 3.4.3. I tried burning a DVD with data from my hard disk and this is the error I immediately got:

Quote:

Does anyone have any idea of what this means? Can this USB-based external DVD burner be used with Debian?

Is there some other application besides k3b which I should try to burn DVDs?

Many thanks for any help!

The important part is:

Quote:
Executing 'builtin_dd if=/dev/fd/0 of=/dev/scd1 obs=32k seek=0'
:-( Failed to change write speed: 2770->3324
This drive is not responding to standard commands - avoid it.

I'm using a USB/Firewire external DVD burner that works well - an LG GSA-5163D.

k3b is up to version 0.12.17 now, so I'd suggest you upgrade to it and see if that fixes your problem.

K3B just invokes the growisofs command, which performs the actual burning on DVDs (and is the source of the error). If you are looking to try upgrading software, you can try that.
