K3b burning dvds too slow

Hello THere
I am running gentoo on a Celeron-D 2.4 with 256 ram, with windows I can burn dvds at 8x with no problems of doing something else at the same time, I burn a dvd with k3b and the average speed was 0.9x it took almost 42 minutes to burn a 1.5gb dvd. Any ideas why this is so slow ??
Thanks!!!
