I hope someone can give me an idea and hopefully even help me solve this puzzling problem:

I have a 4-year-old Sony Vaio laptop which has SuSE 10.1 Pro installed and an external LG CD/DVD burner connected via USB.

SuSE mounts the burner successfully and also reads data from the burner, but when it comes to burning info to CD or DVD with K3b, the program hangs for a while, then freezes, then crashes. This also seems to unmount the external drive at the same time.
