Which graphics card should I get if I want a driver to support 3D acceleration. I've heard that nVidia's drivers are very good, but are closed source. ATI's drivers are open source, but 3D support is only available for Rage cards at the moment -- i.e. no Radeon.
Mdk 9 + nVidia
Mdk PowerPacks should come with the full drivers already installed, normal Mdk has generic drivers which you just upgrade in 1 min flat.
've got a Radeon 9700Pro 128MB and installed drivers you can find on www.siemens-digital.de
OpenGL appz work fine, Quake3, Unreal Tournament as well, solid as a rock !
I have a Radeon 9000 Pro running in Slack 9 quite well. Enjoying ut2k3, Quake 3 and many other games on my linux box now. You can go nVidia or ATI really, nVidia was easier to set up, though I had to reformat after doing it to get the ATI drivers working. Just a matter of preference, and I prefer ATI.
Mandrake 9.1 + Nvidia is the way to go...
Just a opinion, but i a newbie and i only at 1 week in Linux world, and everiting works perfectly...
Best: the SIN Raven
I recently downloaded Army Ops for linux and I find that I get very poor performance. I am running a 2100+, 512 pc2700 RAM and a 9000pro. Is this another game optomized for nvidia or are the ATI drivers just not as good maybe? It appears to be the lighting the slows things down, I tried turned down lightmap and such but it didn't help much. I also tried multiple resolutions as well as the other options.
