harware acceleration for linux?

I know I need hardware acceleration after I tryed bzflag and after windstille told me "you don't have hardware acceleration, hope you have a fast computer"

What is hardware acceleration anyway, and where do I get it and install it?

Thanks

I ask the most simple questions sometimes.

Hardware acceleration refers to the use of your graphics card's hardware for rendering as opposed to relying solely on software->CPU to render. Getting this depends on what kind of graphics card you have (as not all have hardware acceleration support for Linux).
