X uses more CPU on some websites in both Konqueror and Firefox
Hows it going guys?
Just wondering if any has ever experienced this:
I'm running Fedora Core 3, KDE 3.3.1-2.4, AMD XP 1800 384MB Ram.
Nice computer!
My system performs fantastic! However, I notice my whole computer slows down when I visit certain websites.
For example, if i go to google com , - not a problem however, if i visit a site like:
free. grisoft. com/freeweb. php/doc/2/ (anti-virus site) my whole computer slows down...
To find out what was slowing the comp down i ran ' top ' in a terminal and it showed that 'X' was using an average of 85% of the CPU.
Initially i went to this website in Konqueror. When I closed down konqueror things were back to normal. I then opened up Firefox and went to the same site and found that 'X' was using an average of 75% of the CPU, slightly lower, but still high none the less.
A few days earlier i had a similar experience (comp running slow) and i ran a ' ps -aux ' and noticed that 'swf_play' (flash-plugin i believe) was using a lot of memory. I killed that process and things were back to normal...
Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and has any answers???
I believe it has something to do with either the flash-plugin or possibly X? But not sure.
Yes, you are right. It is the flash plugin. The flash plugin is not open source, alas, and that is why it sucks. =) Macromedia wrote it for us linux users, which was nice, but it is not very good, but since they did write it, which is alot more effort than alot of other people for linux support, I appreciate it.
Just uninstall the flash plugin, unless, of course, you are addicted to flash movies.
