I knew what the argument did, but because I had just awakened, I was a little slow to come around, because I use knoppix & Helix on and off, although I've never had to customize the boot options, I did read the Helix manual that explains all of that. Which is where I got some of the knowledge. I worked pretty hard the night before. Glad you found that link though. But basically you were using a generic IDE driver/module to interact with the SATA controller instead of using a generic SATA driver/module.

I can't see how a problem on a Windows partition can affect an optical drive? But my Windows installations are completely hidden from my Linux installations, so maybe that's why I can't put it in prospective.
Anyway, I just reminded myself how I have an ISO of Knoppix on my pen drive that's been there for half a week, just got back from another hard work out, throws me off.
