Kernel 2.6 and Redhat 9 woes
I have been trying to install Kernel 2.6 on Redhat 9 for many weeks and have been unsuccessful at every attempt. Every time I try and fail I try something different. I was successful once but it wouldn't load a module (*.ko) I would jus get version magic errors. I recently tried again and now I get all kinds of errors at boot time about about certain modules not being able to be loaded. I finally get to "Starting system logger:" It hangs here for several minutes and then spews out errors about not being able to initialize blah (read only file. I then get to:
INIT: ld "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: ld "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: ld "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: ld "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: ld "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: ld "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
At this point nothing ever happens. It says 5 minutes but I waited over an hour and it just hung there. I am not sure why this is happening.
I am especially frustrated because Redhat does not have a 2.6 Kernel upgrade avilable via it's system upgrader. Is Redhat behind the times.....Kernel 2.6 has been out for a while now what is the deal?
Can Redhat be purchased with Kernel 2.6? I am trying to install a proprietary software that requires Redhat and kernel 2.6. Any place I can buy Redhat with kernel 2.6? Any ideas!?!
Any ideas are always appreciated!
