Modem Driver Installation Problem

Hi, I'm a linux newbie using Mandrake 9.2, and am trying to install a modem driver for a Samsung CDMA phone (to connect to the internet using usb cable and modem in the phone, works fine in windows). The driver has been provided by the manufacturer as a script file. Now, the instructions say that it uses 'pppd' and 'chat' scripts. How so I know if these are installed?

Also, it tells me to do the following, and this is what happens:

1) modprobe uhci - ERROR: "insmod uhci failed"
2) modprobe acm - nothing happens when I enter this, just goes to new line.

Thanks for any help!

If you issue this command as root:

lsmod | grep acm and see if acm comes up if it does the module is installed. As for the uhci try modprobe usb-uhci see if this works.

If you are using the 2.6.0 kernel I believe it will be modprobe uhci-hcd or something along those lines, can't tell you for sure since I am at work on a Windows computer.

However I do believe that Mandrake usually has the uhci module loaded upon start up. Try issuing the command lsmod | grep uhci

P.S. If running the 2.6 kernel or any kernel cd to the kernel directory
cd /lib/modules/(kernelwhatever)/kernel/drivers/usb/host this should show you all the usb modules when you issue the command ls.
