driver installation of a software based modem under MDK 10.0

i need a little help installing the drivers for a software driven modem
the os is mandrake 10.0
the modem is an intel 537ep
the installation instructions dont work

Code:
# make configure
# make clean
# make install
i tried this, and it gives me source errors, saying it needs autoconf.h
any ideas?

Do you have your kernel headers and kernel sources installed?

This package is the kernel itself, I guess. Kernel sources would be like kernel-source-2.6.4etc etc...
When in front of the machine try:
rpm -q kernel-source
rpm -q kernel-header
rpm -q kernel-headers (I'm not sure how to type...)

This will query the rpm database. You need to have these packages installed if you wanna compile drivers.
