Intel modem driver installation

I reciently brought a new Intel hardware modem (well the box says it's hardware, i'm not so sure to be honest) anyway I chose Intel because they have made linux drivers for it. I am having some trouble installing them though. When following the instructions it asks me to install the kernal headers. Does anyone know how to do this? Also if the installation completes, will my modem work straight off or do I have to do something else?
Many thanks in advance.

Doesn't ring a bell, but if you will give me the website address for those instructions, I'd be willing to read them and see what I can offer.

Also, let us know what kind of system we're looking at.

What CPU, memory?

Version of Linux?

Dual booting? With what?

Did kudzu try to install the modem?

The kernel headers are probably in an RPM package on one of your install disks. There are probably to RPM packages, on with the source, and another with the headers. The filename should start with the words 'kernel-headers' with the version number and .rpm added to the end of it. You could install the package by double-clicking on the package and using kpackage to install it.

I have an intel 536ep on a dual-boot debian+Win98se. I downloaded the source tarball, and compiled it per the instructions. Everything worked perfectly, except that the next time I started my computer, the driver had gone, so I recompiled it. Again it worked but again it disappeared on reboot. I have recently re-installed debian(screwed up my ext3 partition trying to install RH8, very messy, many dead), and have just downloaded the latest version of the driver, which I am hoping will solve the problem. Does anyone know what could have caused such an error in the first place?

Thanks

Form what I can see, the kernel headers are located in the rpm file kernel-source.xx.rpm

Usually found on the install CD's unless you have downloaded updates etc.

These allow drivers to be compiled for your kernel version correctly. If you have the install CD's, you should be able to install them easily enough.
