HELP in reboot


When i reboot my linux server, an error occur

"unexpected inconsistancy"

after that i was able to log in only to the maintenance screen. actually wat error is that? and the solution i did was reinstall the whole server again. pls help

usually this occurs during a power outage or unproper shutdown.. and you shouldn't have had to reinstall but just run fsck like below..

# fsck -A -y

or something like that..

thks trickykid, i did try to type that command #fsck but seems like it doesnt work, i reboot again and the same error i encounter, pls advice

Hey nice Google search...

Be sure to do this on all your partitions.

Don't forget to type ' sync ' after you're finished.

You can also probably prevent this in the future by updating to an ext3 file system. You can do this by typing

tune2fs -j /dev/hdXX

XX being your hard drive and partition letter and number, like hda1. Then, don't forget to update your /etc/fstab and change those partitions from ext2 to ext3.
