How the pc knows how to reboot?


Today I was wondering how when we tell the computer to reboot how he knows that he needs to reboot and not being shut down . I mean in a reboot there is a moment that there isnt any Ac power on the pc right? so what tells the pc to turn on again and how?

I hope someone knows...

Actually, there's always power to a modern (ATX) motherboard. (Unless you flip a switch on the back of some power supplies) Many even have a light indicating this. During a standard (software-ordered) reboot, most components never switch off. What happens is the OS sends an ACPI signal to the BIOS. This can be either "power off" or "reboot" (well, there are other signals, but these are the 2 relevant here). On reboot, the BIOS resets the CPU, and the system boots again. On power off, the BIOS tells the powersupply to switch off all power except for the tiny current used to handle ACPI events, such as a power on, or wake on lan signal.
