Quake 3 again, sorry :(

I have installed q3demo and everything seems to work fine. I can run it at 90fps at 1600x1200, every setting to max, looks great and sound great.

I have a GF4 TI 4200 128MB, AMD 2100+, 512MB.....

The problem is it's a little unplayable because it lags every 2 seconds or so, the framerate seems to drop to 10 for a split second. It feels like playing over a 56k line

I tried with the fast setting (640x480..low this and that...) with the same result.

I though it could be something with the kernel, so I went from stock 2.4.20 to 2.4.23-ck1 and have the same problem. I also updated the nvidia driver without any luck either. I then tried to overclock my GF4 with nvclock and again no go, but nvclock says AGP fastwrite isn't enable, my bios says it is, don't know if it could be that....

It's very annoying to say the least, I love the demo (never liked the full game...) and I would love to frag some more, but after some time, it's just too irritating.

I remember back when I was on XP the frame rate in q3 was limited to 90fps, you had to specified a higher frame rate somewhere in a config file to allow something higher than 90fps. Is this the same thing with linux? Can someone reminds me how and what to edit to do this?

Also, tonight I'll try UT2K3 and ET just to see if it's only a Q3 problem or if it's a general GL problem on my system.

In the mean time, if anybody ever experienced this, any help would be appreciated, but don't expect too much if we meet on a q3demo server

do you have a module called agpgart? do lsmod in the console as root and look for an entry named agpgart. thats the agp module.

PS. the frame rate is limited to 90fps for a reason. it wont really look any better, and itll be harder to play.

are you running any other heavy processes? ANY program, even mozilla? you shouldn't run anything but the default processes, the window mnager and quake3.

no I'm not, but I don't think that's the problem since playing in 640x480 with everything to low gives me the same result.
