RHL ES v4 k2.6.9-5 NEC DVD 3650A SATA install no found driver problem

Machine: DELL Optiplex 745, Sata 0 = 80gb Seagate Sata 1 = Nec DVD+ ND 3650A
Red Hat Linux ES v4 starts reading the CD mounted on the DVD and then loads linux and asks for a Choose a Language, then for Keyboard Type, then for Installation Method (Here I select Local CDROM) and replies "No driver found", please select a driver, User a driver disk or back. Can not continue no matter what I have selected.

I have changed the SATA bios setup to use Legacy instead of Normal in the "SATA Operation" and now it works.
But, the devices are defined as: /dev/hda /dev/hdb instead of /dev/sda /dev/sdb (normally for SATA)when creating partitions.

I have lost SATA functionality if I leave this configured as Legacy. I need to use SATA on the HD and DVD.

Any body with a similar problem? Maybe a suggestion?

Thanks for the time and help.

Have you checked with Dell and/or Red Hat for support (drivers) for the Intel 965 ICH8 SATA interface??

FYI: support is available for the Intel 965 with RHEL4u2 (kernel-2.6.9-22) or better.

Thanks Lenard, I have checked with Dell --> no drivers, with RH you can get drivers after you have installed and registered. My problem is before installing.

As I said before, I was able to install and make it work with SATA LEGACY but I found several problems. lspci shows a lot of unknown devices including the network card from Broadcom. I have tried to configure it, did not work.
So, I think I need a latest RHL ES v4 update with the kernel at least in 2.6.9-22. Or make one.

I will continue with the building of the CD.

Thanks so much!

I have contacted Red Hat and they told me that support for SATA Intel 965 ICH8 is provided on kernel 2.6.9-45 and up.

They sent me the kernel 2.6.9-45 RPM and now it is working OK.

Unfortunately RHEL v4 U4 comes with kernel 2.6.9-42, so you have to install using Legacy (BIOS config) for the Drives and then update the kernel to 2.6.9-45, and then return to Normal (BIOS config) for the Drives.

Thanks to everybody for the help!
