slackware problem

howdy

with some problems, i finally got slackware 8.0 installed, big problem was making a boot disk. well, i now have everything installed, on my computer, but i am sort of perplexed. lilo is installed on hard drive, when i boot get a login, then password prompt , i type both of these values in and the i get a message that i have email, a sweet little message, and the the root prompt. i don,t get it , thought that after i typed password i would get into the kde desktop. how do i get into the kde desktop from the root command?
