distro for my notebook?

I have a: pci based pc-9080 sharp note-book, 133 Mhz pentium processor, 16 MB edo ram, 1,3 GB harddisk, internal 28.8-Kbps modem, buit in 16 bit soundblaster, IrDa port 4 Mbps infrared and W95 running on it.. Trying to get rid of the windows stuff and to run star office and go for internet as well. I use it for office work and i cannot afford a new notebook... any ideas?

I played with a number... okay 4 P133 24Mb RAM Notebooks about a month or two ago with just about every modern distro... they all ran alright, although I've gotten really good at running Slackware very slim. Debian was the other one that was outright tiny, but neither of those are starter distros. Staroffice is going to run like an abominable pig on that old a machine, but if you've got to have .doc format... you're pretty much stuck. To minimize the issues, you may want to run a light front-end window manager like Xfce or Wmaker, and avoid Gnome or KDE.

Luck,

thanks for your mess. as long as doc, xls and ppt can be viewed actually, there will be no problem its on the road stuff and can be handled. I have been using mandrake 7.1 and now 8.1 on my pc and would like a smooth, light distro for the notebook...

The best performance I got, outright, with zero frills was Debian. Windowmaker by default, X was a headache to setup, but almost always will be on a laptop as mobile cards and TFTs weren't what they originally had in mind. I don't even use Debian much any more, so I'm not an evangalist for it either... yeah it installs small as well, about 300 Megs tops.

Cheers
