Deciding to cross the street would be pointless. Everything is predetermined. If they were to bump into MrCode, they would anyway.

LOL, Now I think it is predetermined that Mr Code would roll his eyes,
and think twice about moving his mouse towards the Report button.

For consideration. I figure I'm fairly good with computers. But I've got a windows problems that wont go away. Not only that it's one of those Fn validation errors that are impossible to correct even with the recovery disks, the recovery partition and correct product keys. The only reason I keep Windows around is because of handful of legacy apps that won't run under wine or in a Vbox Windows.

So thanks again Linus Thorvald, at least I can keep everything else going, the important stuff like accounting and wasting my time posting here.

Thanks Linus, Have a pint on me.

(/me ignores the smart-@$$ posts above and gets on with the topic )

I suppose I should post my own "reaction" here, since I never did…

I honestly don't see myself actually meeting any of these people in person anytime soon, but even if I did, I probably wouldn't have that much to say to any of them (aside from maybe a polite 'hello')…then again, I'm too shy to talk to nearly anyone I don't already know personally (IRL).

I mostly started this thread to hopefully try to divert attention from the religion/politics threads that have been gaining in popularity lately (or so it seems to me). I suppose it didn't work as well as I had thought it would.

I used to be really shy when I was a lot younger, from being a kid until sometime in my 'teens. Can't think of anything I consciously did to get over it, it just seemed to disappear.

I'm surprised that the subjects of politics and religion are allowed at all. All yo often they create consternation and argument among forum members When I see them I have some fun with them in the way I see the world. Unfortunately from my point of view the arguments and discussions never change. NO ONE answerd the questions in my last post. They step all around it ad avoid the issue sticking everyone sticking with the dogma of what they have learned.

Same things apply to politics. Neither topic works for the simple reason no one is willing to change their mind or listen to another point of view. They vote the party line while the politicians do not listen to us and vote the way they want.

You want jobs and change? Then yo have to be ready to make some fundamental changes in the way you look at those you place into office.

Same here, but it's not shyness that keeps me from talking to people, it's a combination of arrogance and paranoia. So, what I mean is that talking to them is either a waste of time, because they won't understand a thing I say, or they are probably just gubmint spies gathering info on the populace and writing down the names of people that are different or that have opinions that differ from the masses.

If people talk to me, I talk back, but I stop talking when they say something that I cannot answer to ... something stupefyingly stupid ... to which I respond 'Yeah, whatever' and go do something more productive.

Honestly, I think that trying to "talk shop" with any one of those guys would be like trying to casually bring up some subtle point of chess strategy in a conversation with Garry Kasparov: I'd be in way over my head, and there is absolutely no way that any of them would find our exchange valuable in any way. It would be much more enjoyable to discuss the following:

Stallman - beards
Torvalds - metal (the music ... he's Scandinavian, after all ...)
Shuttleworth - theology
Volkerding - BEER. (This would be my favorite of the four, I think.)
(I am pretty into beer.)

I imagine a conversation between me and Linus Torvolds would go something like this...

MJones490: Hey! Aren't you Linus Torvolds, creator of the Linux kernel?
Linus Torvolds: Yeah.
MJ: Man, what a cool O.S.! Hey, I was born exactly one year and one day before you!
LT: So, what do you want? A cookie?
MJ: Well, no, I just thought that was an interesting. . . Can I get your autograph?
LT: No.
MJ: Well, can I at least get a picture? Hey, honey! Come over here and get a picture of me with Linus Torvolds!
Tonya: Who?
LT: Get the hell away from me, you wierdy.

And then I'd be all depressed the rest of the day.

On top of that, Linus would probably get even angrier if you kept misspelling/mispronouncing his surname

hehe, that's the best part...

for example Linus Torvalds could walk around my hometown for weeks and almost no one would know who he is.

Linux Torvals
I guess this is a common affliction: people tend to misspell Linus Torvalds' name as "Linux" (or something similar) all the time.

Everyone, repeat after me:

Linus Torvalds
Linus Torvalds
Linus Torvalds
Linux Torvalds

…well, dammit.
