Thanks for the Capt. Beefheart. I'm a longtime fan. He's fully capable of getting quite wacky and sometimes even that hits some kind of clear spot. He was once asked what was the main difference between he and Frank Zappa and he responded, "Well Frank still believes in Time" So in a much more accessible frame but still heavy into stretching the concepts of what is possible and still sort of be The Blues, here is a current fave of mine, Matt Scofield, playing with some fairly no name cats who really know Music but never forgot it's supposed to be fun.

i was recently searching for some stuff related to The Expanse, whose main hero is called James Holden. Turns out there's an artist/band going by that name, and they already worked under that name way before the first Expanse novel came out. Maybe the Corey writers got their name from them?
It's pretty wild music. I loved every second of it. Listened to it while shopping, it really brings out the bedlam of a mall on saturday.

Pretty cool, ondoho, but if that's "the bedlam of a mall on Saturday" this is the caffeinated high speed caterwauling drive to that mall on Saturday when you're already late for an important meeting.

Hello there ondoho

That whole album is an important classic to me. It's been labeled Fusion because of the blend of Rock and Jazz and also because of when it came out ~1974. The "~" before the date is because there is some little lack of clarity on the release date. I bought the vinyl just a few years after it came out and later lost it in an accident and bought a CD and the release dates don't match by one year but that is the era. Despite that I played the CD in 2001 for a friend who was a professional guitar player and recording engineer who was shocked when he heard the date noting that it could have come out that same year and still been fresh and meaningful. I frankly think it could come out this year and have potent impact at the very least for any music lover who enjoys imaginative, intelligent music that demonstrates an improv instrumental conversation. It is, to me, Musi8c as Language. I'm glad you found it enjoyable. If you'd like to hear more of it the whole LP is on YouTube here
