Yeah, didn't consider that people wouldn't think before they read my post.

One would guess that after all this time, I would know better.

Thanks.

Did your read post 949, at all? Or did your blinders get in the way?

FWIW, no I'm not an agnostic but a gnostic. Not quite the same thing.

I vote that this thread be closed on the grounds that it's quickly becoming a religion/faith flame war...anyone else here agree?

This will be my last post in this thread, FWIW. I'm not even going to keep reading new posts to it. Frankly though, I won't be surprised if soon I see the little padlock icon next to the title.

I read it ! Oh so you're a gnostic then ?

so that means (feel free to correct me) that you're trying to use occam's razor to "prove" the existence of god , isn't it?

well i expected faulty logic when i read your post the first time but this makes it even more incoherent...LOL
either way , i wish you good luck with your argument (trust me you gonna need it )

NEGATIVE , I don't agree !

for the simple reason that this thread has been around probably longer than anybody of us , not to mention that and unlike some other places LQ doesn't censor free speech as long as you're not violating any rules , and i'm must say that i fail to see where that (LQ rules violation) could have happened , obviously and contrary to your belief discussing opinions on religion doesn't constitute a personal attack..

that being said , i strongly advice you to heed your own suggestion as to not further participate or read this thread , given that you are admittedly "quite sensitive" about this issue.

however , your oversensitivity IMO should not have consenquenses on this thread nor its participants.

WRT "thread closure". No. Nope. Not at all. This is your thread and if it becomes a train wreck then you can all stand back and see where you went wrong. So, if you want this thread to continue, be nice and be respectful.

Yes, some people do not believe that thing that you think is important to believe. Some people may even believe that you are a silly person for believing that thing that you believe in. Live with it. If you cannot discuss your belief (or lack thereof) in a polite manner and informatively, then frankly you should not be allowed on the internet. There is a host of material on the web that you can use to back up your statements and to try to bring someone else around to your way of thinking. Why not try to use them.

So, this thread can go one of 3 ways:
  1. Keep it going as it is and prove that everyone on the internet is a flaming idiot
  2. Use your own knowledge and belief to craft a well-reasoned argument to show that your belief is better than everyone else's - use materials found on the web: audio clips, quotes, Wikipedia and so on. Show people that there is knowledge out there and that it is interesting. Be prepared to get your belief and knowledge rebutted. Respond to rebuttals.
  3. Try to trash this thread and get it closed out of exasperation. This will work. But beware: the person or people that do this will get an extra special surprise.

God's very busy right now. He will get round to you eventually. He says sorry for any inconvenience, but he thinks this whole universe was a mistake. He might delete it and start again.

If he decides to start the whole thing again, can you tell him to make us impervious to paper cuts and to move the UK closer to the North Pole. I am not a big fan of hot summers. Thank you

He says the new earth will be totally different, but he can't be specific about the details.

XavierP
He wants to know if you really want to go before the rest of creation. It would be more convenient if you were willing to wait until he destroys everything. Probably next thursday afternoon.

When I was little I said something similar to a classmate that was a hardcore believer. He told me that it wasn't allowed to test God. It was a sin and you should just have faith in Him. If you did, however, you would go to hell when you died. So God can't be tested in that sort of way. We need to think of something else. Pointing out inconsistency in the bible is also a dead end.

I like those rules that they have. It's would be very convenient to be able to say something like that in a Ph.D. disputation. "No, my theory is not consistent with special relativity, because special relativity according to my theory is wrong, so that question is invalid".

@BrianL - whenever is convenient. Though it would mean more if my destruction isn't wrapped up with everyone else's.

@Dinithion - several places in the Bible say we should test God. One of the more famous ones talks about "...knock and the door shall be opened for you..." And if you can't test God, why else would you bother praying? Do you think medical science will heal you? You don't expect me to work to get rich, do you?

And again I say unto you: "In due time".

You really can't challenge that one.

There is no point accepting a challenge if god waits for me to go via natural causes. It needs to send a clear message to be valid!
