Right, and that is exactly what Linus was setting up by making Linux for i86, but we all know that -- obviously I do -- why do I run an i86 RH when I have a Mac? Yeah that's why!
huh, do a search on my posts and u will see that my first ones people started trying to flame me for my sig the freebsd is way better than linux.
dont get my wrong, i do like linux, but its not at the 'set up and walk away' stage just yet

OOooowwwwww - i am dying for my powerbook to arrive, dont like the whooping cost on it though, 3700 euros compared to 2,300 euros if i bought it in the states
happy days when it arrives though
You're gonna love it! Just don't forget to either let it run cron tasks (leaving it up and on - not sleeping - at about some where around 0300 - 0600) or do them manually (I do) or edit the cron tab. This seems to be the main cause of problems for Mac users.

cron tasks? why would it need to run cron tasks? i dont think i would be leaving it on all the time to preserve its lifespan - could always just edit it and tell it to run during the day
Originally posted by Gill Bates i know that, just thought that apple ran some 'weird' ones the way u worded it
Yeah, I thought so, so what happens is people don't run them and the computer is off or asleep at the automatic times, as a result they don't get run at all! Begging for disaster, I don't know why people don't realize. Must be something about how doz does it. BTW. what's your opinion on doz?
I still think that a computer crashes cause of how you use it and what you do, if you KNOW how to use a pc it won't crash and that doesn't even apply if you only play music on it cause i saw pcs crashing on that too, and there's not even pushing or using the computer to the EXTREME cause the stability is only compromised when you overclock the computer and do other hardware tweaks
i dont have to back it up, its everywhere,. check out the top 50 uptimes and everyone of them is bsd, check out the stats and performance and do some research on it and u will see.
linux is still converging on unix and is bringing some nice advantages with it

"top 50 uptimes" I didn't realise there was a definitive list.
