Aren't Chrome apps just fancy bookmarks that someone has to write for you?
Some are ... and some are fully functional client-side apps that install as Chrome extensions. Like the Ubuntu One, Fiabee, SourceKit, Calculatoure, 5calc, and WriteSpace apps. Notice, for example, how there's no URL in the Ubuntu One and Fiabee screenshots? That's because the URL to the app is internal -- that is, inside Chrome.

Kenny, why do you feel the need to post a new screenshot every time you do something simple like changing the background? I mean, I've been guilty of this too a couple of times in this thread, but really, every time you change your background?

Not the background, the theme. Chrome themes automatically change the background for you.
KDE4 and KWin on Slackware 13.1. Recently gave my desktop a makeover, and this was the outcome: http://barrelsbottom.deviantart.com/#/d39eoaj
There's also a screenshot of the same theme with some programs opened on that account, as well as my previous theme.
