The first computer my dad had when I was little was a Commodore 64, then he upgraded to C128. I do want it for nostalgia and name. But what made me even more excited is that they are going with Linux out of the box.

It's basically just Linux Mint with a heavily customized GNOME 2.x environment and some extra "nostalgic" software (emulators, etc.); it's easily virtualized.

Have you try the beta C64 vision OS? it's available for download for free.

Let's hope that C64 embraces linux as long as it can and not turn around like Asus did with their netbooks by offering an oem windows over linux.

I see from your profile that you are 20 years old. I'm 43, and not a doctor. Morning depression which affects your behavior should probably be taken seriously. It is worth sorting out your problems while you're still relatively young. I know you didn't ask for my opinion, so feel free to ignore it.

All I'm saying is that if someone wants to spend their hard-earned cash on one of these "new" Commodore machines, by all means they should go for it; it's their money.
Yeah, I totally agree with that. I really have no idea why one or two respondents have been so reactionary about the opinions you and I expressed in this thread. Nothing terribly controversial as far as I can tell.

If the the money was within reach I think I really would buy one. Knowing that cheaper brand (or self built) with similar capabilities is available wouldn't change my mind. I'd still want this computer.

Off-topic, but I figure I should go ahead and address this now…

I'm not always depressed/frustrated when I get up in the morning, it's just that sometimes I'll read something in the religion thread or some such while I'm still tired/easily ticked off and it'll set off my rantings, I guess. :-\

It's cool; I appreciate the concern. I know I'm probably pretty messed up anyway…

just go to the local junk shops find a real C-64 then find a laptop you can rip the mobo out of and mod it in to the C-64 case
and keep about $700.00 in your pocket
