FC2 install ISOs

i am trying to upgrade from FC1 to FC2. i really like the simplicity of FC, as a former windows user who still relies heavily on the GUI. anyway, i've downloaded each ISO about 3 times, and every time i run the install, the media test on every disk comes back as FAIL. sometimes, the discs aren't detected at all. i'm thinking about switching to debian, unless someone can help me. i'd much rather use FC.

I think you need to specify that the file you are burning is to be burned as a CD image (.iso). At least I need to do this when using Roxio. I think it is
file -> burn CD from image -> select location -> pulldown option to burn as .iso

Otherwise, it burns as just un-bootable data.

What software are you using to burn the ISOs? What ehawk is saying is that you can copy an ISO to disk without actually creating an ISO image. The ISO is just one large data file. If you burn that to disk, you can't boot. You need to tell your burning software to create the CD image from the ISO data file.

i am using NTI cd-maker plus 5.0. it's a POS program, but it's all i have. when i burned the software, i went to the option that says "create cd from ISO cd image file". so basically, you both told me to do what i've already done. i greatly appreciate your help, tho.

Another thing that I noticed is that if I try to burn a CD at the maximum speed, I will sometimes get a FAIL during the media check. Since I am not in a rush, I just set the burn speed to its lowest value. It ends up taking ~9 minutes for me to burn each CD, but they always come out fine.

Another thing you can do is check the md5 sum (I've never done this). You can always try a different mirror, too.

i will try that. i've seen other people say they've had great results with burning at lower speeds, so now i'm burning them at 24x instead of 52x
