I ran it 3 times including reboot the PC. The packages seem not yet be installed.

Please advise where shall I check and how to fix the problem. TIA

Ah. The sledgehammer approach. Ignore error output, hammer hard and often and hope the problem goes away by sheer magic.

You just don't have any diskspace on / left me thinks?

Yes, you are right.

On referring to the notes taken down on installing F8. It is clear to me now. The total HD space is 80G. First I assign 53000M as / (I think it equals to 53G). It complained saying out of range. I can't understand. So I tried 5300M. It did not complain. That is the cause of mistake. Then I followed the same pattern assigning 1500M as /var taking it as 15G.

As fun I'll make use of F8 learning LVM. Since I did not invest much time on it. I'm following this guide - LVM How-to to proceed;
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/html_single/LVM-HOWTO/

I can't find lvcreate on repo.

lvm2.x86_64 and lvm2-cluster.x86_64 have been installed on F8. "yum search lvcreate" can't find this package.

Neither can I find lvm-base on repo

Please advise where can I download lvm-base and what other tools I have to install. TIA

You've got over 2K posts. You know different topics means different threads. 'lvcreate' should be in the lvm2 RPM.

Aren't all the lvm tools installed by default in F8?

Satimis,
does this post mean that you got over the issues in

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...oblem-616442/?

If so, post an update on that post to let people know

Hi folks,

I found lvm2 tools must be run as super root "su -"

# pvdisplay /dev/sda1
Code:
No physical volume label read from /dev/sda1
Failed to read physical volume "/dev/sda1"
/boot is physical volumn. Why?

# lvdisplay -m
No volume groups found

# lvdisplay -c /dev/sda7
Volume group "sda7" not found

I think it would be easier to erase F8 and start over again. Thanks

But then you wouldn't learn a thing and that's what you set out to do, right? OTOH LVM's can be a real PITA (see the many "I broke my LVM" threads) so recreating a regular partition scheme for your OS and one or two separate partitions to play LVM (mark them as expendable and don't put critical data on it) seems a good thing.

Code:
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
Nothing else.

Oh sorry, I left out "NOT" on the line
Code:
/boot is "NOT" physical volumn. Why?
I have to make it as physical volume. Otherwise it can't be found at boot.

My problem here is no Volume Group can be found.

The list is long because no filtering takes place (some conf in /etc/lvm*).
Seems vgscan didn't find any VGs on attached HDs. Definately weird.
Trace back (.bash_history) the commands used to set up the pv/vg/lvms?

Code:
# lvdisplay -c /dev/sda7
Volume group "sda7" not found
sda7 isn't a volgoup. A volgroup will be something like

/dev/LibVol00/VolGroup00

(or is it /dev/VolGroup/LibVol - can't remember)

I think that are all I can locate. I ran GUI installation to install F8.

These are case sensitive

On my CentOS box, I have /dev/VolGroup00 for example

Try cd/dev and ls. You'll get a far better idea of what's going on
