Question localhost.localdomain issues

Hi there, recently i got tired of looking at localhost.localdomain at login and other apps so i decided to do something about it. I use gnome so take that under consideration. First in the network config panel i added a host named MebreLinux and put the classic 127.0.0.1 address, then on the DNS tab i replaced localhost.localdomain with MebreLinux. Restar computer and now it hangs for about a minute at the sendmail step, on the good side now the screen reads MebreLinux.

So a friend of mine suggests i delete from the hosts tab MebreLinux but leave the name on the DNS tab. Restart computer, boots perfectly, no stops on sendmail, login screen reports MebreLinux and i'm thinkin Yay! But when i login a message showsup sayin thay gnome cant find the address for MebreLinux and might not work well. So i add again MebreLinux to the host tab and the hangin problem returns and gnome works peachy.

Any ideas on how to get this workin properly and please o please dont tell me to go back to the original localhost.localdomain thingie.

Sendmail likes to see this:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain.MebreLinux localhost

in your /etc/hosts file.

You can edit it as root. You can comment out what's in there now
in case you want to return to it and to be on the safe side.

But sendmail should not hang if you change it that way.

Also, you can change the line that begins:

HOSTNAME=

in /etc/rc.sysinit

so that it reads

HOSTNAME=MebreLinux

At least that's what I had to do so I saw my preferred hostname
when I log in, etc.

Those two changes ought to be all you need to do if you're just running
a desktop workstation installation.
