Today I started the process of installing Debian on my laptop but the installer hangs during hardware detection.
I'm using the official 3.1 CDs to do the installation and I boot the installer with 'linux26' as the parameter. When it hangs, this is what is displayed:
Detecting hardware to find CD-ROM drives
84%
Loading module 'ide-disk' for 'Linux ATA DISK'...
Is there any way to diagnose what could be causing this? I am doing the installation on a laptop (DELL Inspiron 5150), but I would assume this falls under general hardware issues?
Oh, and for reference sake, this hang doesn't happen if I don't provide the 'linux26' parameter (but I get other issues instead later on).
Thanks,
- Mab
