assuming you have kde installed, and Debian is installed correctyly, you can try this as root: with your favorite
editor, edit/create your ~/.xsession, making kde your default desktop environment. Example:
#vim /home/your_user_name/.xsession
then copy/paste this:
#!/bin/sh
xhost +localhost
exec kdestart
save/exit
#dpkg --purge gdm
#apt-get clean
#apt-get install kdm
reboot
after you come back, you should have kdm, and kde should start by default, once you login.
