CruxEX (CRUX 3.1) live USB, build 141017, with kernel 3.17.1

Posted 10-17-2014 at 02:24 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

CruxEX 3.1 2014 64 bit Linux Live USB is based on CRUX 3.1 (latest version, released 140716), which is all Linux enthusiasts/nerds favorite OS. (CRUX 3.1 is a lightweight Linux distribution for the x86_64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users). CruxEX 3.1 2014 uses the LXDE Desktop environment. I have replaced the original CRUX kernel 3.12.24 with “my” special kernel 3.17.1-x86_64-cruxex, with support for “extra everything”.

Run your Slackware 64 bit system with the latest stable kernel – 3.17.1!

Posted 10-15-2014 at 05:13 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

I have compiled a very useful (as I think) 64 bit kernel for Slackware 12.0 – 14.1 and/or all Slackware derivatives. For example Slax, Zenwalk, SlackEX and Exton|Defender. The kernel is compiled exactly the same way as Slackware’s latest kernel huge. “My” kernel 3.17.1-x86_64-exton has even more support for new hardware, etc. Kernel 3.17.1 is the latest stable kernel available from Kernel.org. Released today (141015).

I have made a new extra version of DebEX, which I call DebEX Gnome Live DVD. It’s a pure Debian system. It uses Gnome 3.14 (latest version) and Mate 1.8.2 (latest version) as Desktop environments. Gnome 3.14 is winning back disillusioned Linux users...

DebEX Barebone/KDE - Install Gnome 3.14 or/and KDE 4.14.1

Posted 10-12-2014 at 01:43 PM by exton (Exton's Blog)

Rolling distributions
Please note that Debian Jessie/DebEX Barebone and DebEX KDE are rolling distributions, which implies that once you have installed the systems on the hard drive there is no need for re-installations (which otherwise is common in the Linux world). This means, for example, that you can go on and install Gnome 3.14 or/and KDE 4.14.1 in DebEX Barebone/KDE. I.e. the latest versions (as of 141012) of Gnome and KDE.

Posted 10-07-2014 at 10:51 AM by exton (Exton's Blog)

NEWS 141007 about Exton|OS Light Live CD – ISO file of 703 MB
I’ve made a new extra version of Exton|OS based on upcoming Ubuntu 14.10 (alias Utopic Unicorn) 64 bit with only a minimum of packages pre-installed. Among them a terminal emulator (LXTerminal), a Web Browser (Chromium), PCManFM (file manager), NetworkManager, GParted (Partition Editor) and Synaptic (Package Manager). I give you the pleasure of installing all extra packages you need after a hard disk installation of Exton|OS Light....
