It's not snowing here in Florida but in Illinois it's a mess.

Hi,

I am wintering in Florida and remodeling our new winter home. Hiring as much as possible since I bought here to vacation not do daily work on a house. Labor not as cheap as I was told. Finding reputable contractors is tough.

My wife has gone mad purchasing new furniture. I spend on the necessary things like a new 65" Smart 4K Ultra-HD HDTV for the living room. I just bought a 50" Smart 4K Ultra-Hd HDTV for the Florida room for guests and when the wife doesn't want to watch the games or Golf.

I have been playing golf almost everyday that we have been here. It's nice to have the 8th tee at my back door. If not busy then I just jump into my golf cart and start at the 8th and play a quick nine. It took sometime to get used to the fairway grass and greens here. Our community is a 55+ and we only have nine holes par 3 course. Only two par 4 holes on the course. The greens are going to be redone starting in May/17 thru Aug/17 with the course shut down for the rebuild period.

We are returning home in May/17 so that will not affect us. I still participate with my mod duties here at LQ. Just got my new office done and outfitted with a new desks and cabinets. I brought some ARM hardware with me to setup a small server for this place. I am looking at how I can use some of the security hardware that was already installed here. The community is very secure and the members look out for each other.

Very active friendly retirement community. We just participated in the Christmas golf cart parade (everyone decorated their carts) and that was a lot of fun with caroling at all the cul-de-sac and imbibe throughout the park. We all met at the club house after the parade for pizza and BYOB. They even got me on stage to participate in a Christmas skit. My wife videoed the whole thing and sent it out to everyone. I really did not care at the time. I watched the video and things were very funny with everyone having too much fun, myself included. It's healthy when you can laugh at yourself with everyone else. Just because you are retired doesn't mean you stop having fun!

I hope everyone will have a joyous holiday and share it with your loved ones!

Merry Christmas & a very Happy New Year!

I live next to a golf course. The streets and houses sort of wind their way around the fairways in a big circle; I live in one of several condo communities in the overall development. It's not a retirement community, but most of the residents in my condo are older, though we are fortunate to have some families with young children; they provide a bit of spice.

I don't play golf, but I am quite happy to point and laugh (grin, duck, and run).

I remember several years ago, we had an unusually mild winter. On Christmas Day, the temperatures were in the low 60s. There was a golfer who came by who was clearly celebrating the occasion, because, on every shot, he called loudly on the name of the Lord . . . .
