1) I don't know a lot about L3 cache.
2) Personnally, I don't really "mount" floppies.
I use floppies in two ways, depending where I want to read my floppy.
a) If I want to be able to read my floppy on an AIX bos, I put a formatted floppy in the drive and I type
find . -print |cpio -omBdv >/dev/flop # /dev/flop is the name of the floppy device.
b) If I want to read my floppy on a Windows box, I write files with "doswrite", and I read them with "dosread" on the AIX box.
