Talking stupid answer

possible reasons
1. is the floppy drives wiring proper
2. is the disk not good
3. is floppy disk inserted in the drive

and finally try this
mount /dev/fd0 -t msdos /mnt/floppy

and tell me

In the /etc/fstab instead of:
"mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner,kudzu 0 0"
try
"/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy vfat noauto,owner,kudzu 0 0"
