How to mount floppy drive through kernel?

I've got the oh so famous startx "no screens found" error and I would like to post my XF86Config-4 file, but the /mnt/ directory is empty. I do not have any other os's on the computer, so there is not a way to access it through windows or another distro, I need to do it through kernel. Any suggestions?

At the command prompt log in as root
mkdir floppy
mount /dev/fd0 /root/floppy
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /root/floppy

If you're on Debian, put in a formatted floppy and type $mount /floppy
