Smile no grub boot menu splash image

With a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04.1 and mutli-booting with XP and SUSE, all works fine except my grub boot loader is plain white text on black. So how do I add the Ubuntu grub splash image file, and then edit the grub menu.lst? Also my Dell LCD monitor connected DVI (digital) is not fully and correctly detected, as screen saver and power manager do not work right or at all. Is this in; /etc/X11/Xorg.conf ? Thanks

HI, I will comment on the gfxmenu stuff

grub menu should have a line at the top that reads

gfxmenu (hdx,y)/boot/(name of image)

if /boot is sub-folder to / then above line is true
otherwise you have a /boot partition and you remove the /boot bit from the stanza

altho it may be technical here is a wiki
http://www.sidux.com/index.php?modul...ka&tag=Gfxmenu

2) post the specs of your monitor and the video card.

generally speaking some ppl use the nvidia or amd closed source drivers which can mod your xorg file

3) screen saver...don't use gnome so can't help unless you use kde.

4) kernel must have acpi stuff and modules loaded to use power management

Tell us what video card you have, and the specs for your monitor. If you use an nvidia or ATI card, then installing the correct driver will help, as Asus9 said.
Also see this for screen resolutions:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fi...r)|(resolution)
For nvidia driver:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...hlight=(nvidia)
For ATI driver:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...highlight=(ati)
Hope this helps.

Thumbs up now is solved

I did find out how to put in a grub splash image, and did get it to work. And with my NVIDIA Geforce 7300 GS video card issue in Ubuntu displayed on my Dell 1704FPT monitor connected digital, I have now fully installed the Linux nvidia driver and that NVIDIA configuration tool. Also I did run this; nvidia-xconfig as root in a terminal, which appears to have fixed my issues with the LCD screen detection and settings, thanks. And thanks aus9 for the gfxmenu tip, I did find some items in the Synaptic Package Manager for adding the gfxmenu, but a default Ubuntu install does not include these items, like other distros such as PCLinuxOS. What are the software packages which are marked as; multiverse or universe ? Thanks for the help.
