is there a way to make the ipod safe to disconnect or doesnt matter in linux?
If you have ended all operations on your iPOD, type 'eject /dev/sdb2' on command-line and the warning will disappear.

EDIT: seems I was slow-typing again But so I can add what I forgot: I don't think the m4p files cause any trouble. You simply can't play them. I run gtkpod with some m4p file on the iPOD without problems.

Hey abisko00, just wanted to say thanks for all your help here - couldn't have done it without you. As you can probably guess, I got it working gtkpod freezes when trying to transfer some files to the iPod but that's not too hard to get around. Thanks again.

The file-ending m4p does not necessarily mean that the file is DRM protected. I was refering to files that where purchased from iTunes. I have never managed to play these. But if you say so, I should give it a try.
