Thumbs up KDE Screensaver Settings - Suggestions to help get it to work

Do you have problems getting the default KDE screensavers setup to work after you upgrade the video driver? I have had this problem in both SuSE 10.1 and 10.2. After the video driver upgrade, many or most screensavers just leave you with a blank screen. There are several things that can do this and these items must be adjusted first.

1. Kpowersave/Scheme Settings - Uncheck "Enable specific screensaver settings" and uncheck "Enable specific display power management"

2. Configure Desktop - Right click on the Desktop and pick "Configure Desktop". Pick the Display option on the left and then the "Power Control" Tab. Uncheck the "Enable Display Power Management".

3. Finally, the fix I found on the internet. Navigate to your home folder. You must have the option to view hidden files checked "View/Show Hidden Files":

/home/username/.kde/share/config

Edit the file "kdesktoprc"

Add the following line under the ScreenSaver Heading:

[ScreenSaver]

DPMS-dependent=false

Performing the three steps always allows the KDE screensavers to work for me on every system I have tried it on. I like the GLMATRIX screen saver the best. I always try to use an nVidia Video card.

Good Luck...

Thank you very much! Works like a charm in Slackware 11.0.

Note: the only thing I did was edit the kdesktoprc file and the problem was fixed.

Thumbs up Screensave fix works with KDE Slackware

Thanks for letting me know of your success. I think this is a KDE problem as opposed to a SuSE problem, but since I am only using SuSE I would not know the source of the problem as being SuSE of KDE.

Thank You,

I had the same problem on Kubuntu Feisty. Couldn't find the options for #1 or #2, but #3 did the trick!

Thanks!
