sleep/standby/screensaver settings

have a problem that wasn't happening in the last install i did.

computer is going to standby mode, or at least i think it is, could be
called sleep mode or even the screen saver although i've turned off
these things the only ways i know.

already done

~$ xset s off

In Gnome>Desktop Preferences>Screensaver

I've disabled the screen saver.

I'm missing something somewhere on thsi becuase the computer still goes
to a blank screen after a 10 min or something like that. Actually i
think it puts the monitor into standby.

anyhow any ideas?
